For 2 months I have been talking about the benefits of mindfulness which is in essence being aware of your thoughts, feelings and reactions to life. Breathing has a lot to do with your state of mind. When you are excited your breath is more rapid than when you are relaxed and sleepy. When you begin to observe yourself, you can gain valuable insights.
You are a spiritual being in a human body and when you identify with your "true self", then you begin to relax and enjoy life knowing that you are never alone and all is well. When you find yourself anxious, you can stop and remind yourself to breathe which can put yourself into a calm state of mind.
There was an old adage that had to do with counting to 10 before reacting. This is very wise. This will keep you from saying and doing things you will regret when you are angry or upset.
If you can't sleep, just watch your breath and know that you are not alone. You are connected to all the help and wisdom that you need. When you are mindful (aware), then you begin to feel grateful for what you have. Joy begins to seep into your life.
